Chess Day in Belmopan

It was a great event: more than 100 people from Cayo, Belize City and Stann Creek came to play chess, or learn how to play...

It was not just about learning the moves: it was about having fun!

Chess ART:

Chess is good for all ages!

Blitz games: 5 mins each with clocks

Overview of the day:
THIS was the first successful Family CHESS Day. More than 100 people were on the grounds of Independance Park from 10-3:00pm, playing chess, doing puzzles,
making clay chess pieces, learning how to play: there were activities for everybody.David Martniez, who came from Belize City, together with few other
coaches spent the whole day teaching the basics of the game to the new players: adults and kids. David is one of the strongest players in Belize, but he is very passionate about teaching new people how to play. Thank you!
Special Acknowledgement should go to Stann Creek. They brought with them 44 kids and their coaches together with Maj. Charlton Roches run the Bltiz Competition for adults as well as for children.Stann Creek took the first 5 places in the first devision( childrenunder 15). Their participation in todays Cayo event is really astonishing. Some of the Cayo parents got inspired and said that they want their kids to learn the game better ....so that they couldchallenge Stann Creek!

Thank you to all the volunteers and participants of the First Family Chess Day! I apologize that i cannot mention everybody who helped today at the event: there were a lot of volunteers!

The next Family Chess Day will take place in Dangriga: Saturday, October 18th, 10:00-3:00, in front of the Education Office. We hope that people from other districts will be able to join them.
